Originally from Orrville, Ohio, Vera Smucker Shenk graduated in 1975 from Goshen (Indiana) College with an Elementary Education degree. In the late 1970s she taught preschool in Indiana and Iowa, then worked as a paraprofessional in Goshen Community Schools. Vera went on to get training in counseling, spiritual direction and chaplaincy; she worked as a chaplain at Elkhart (Indiana) General Hospital from 2015 to 2020. She uses drawing within “the sacred circle,” the mandala, as a creative outlet for centering and self-reflection. Exploring how children, teens and adults learn, grow and find ways to integrate new learnings continues to intrigue Vera. The Three Little Pigs Make New Plans is her first published work.
